Hello.
Maybe it was living in the desert SW for awhile, but my fav yard chair was always the small boulder.
What I don’t get is why people would expect it to be any good. If you went over to reddit, and somehow actually got it to sort by literally “all” subs, and especially if you flipped over to “new”…
That is just not going to be anything but a shitty experience.
Do people think like, everything that exists must somehow be good or something? No, meh content is everywhere, and it gets reposted and shared all the time. It’s the bulk of it… We’re better than reddit would be, but I still don’t use all very much. Mainly just use it to find decent new communities to actually subscribe to.
Duct. Duck is a brand name, sealing gaps in ductwork is one of the things its really good at and happens to be the same color of, to blend into.
But yes, ops tortillas are not the best.
That’s like … some thousands of ad watches worth? Solid contribution. Digital economy works great at the penny-ante level, since there’s so god damn many of us. Standard “if everyone gave a dollar…” line.
I’ll just leave this here. Explanation of Lemmy and Fediverse principles in lay-person’s language.
Unfortunately, credibility does need to be earned, ideas do not exist in a vacuum, nor should they. This is a necessary adaptation to the quantity of information presented to us in the modern day, every day. This is why pure rhetoric and rationality cannot be used to understand the world around us, it’s simply impractical to do that much processing every day.
Calling a person’s credibility into question is thus very valid, as it implies debate is not being entered into in good faith. If you wish this resolved, you will have to earn your right to be listened to by anyone who has any significant amount of experience with online communities. It’s just too easy to spout fancy sounding bullshit like some kind of firehose, manufacture evidence in a variety of ways, and just generally waste people’s time. It happens all the time.
I don’t know…
“It is absolutely none of your concern and your suspicions mean nothing…” is a blatantly false statement. That is a community member, he has as much right to express his thoughts about the conversation as you do.
College commie phase? Maybe in the 70s. Not any more, we have more evidence now.
Like, 90% of them are younger than HS, I’d put money on it.

Incidentally, they banned me from their Instance, so that kid can’t actually see what I wrote. It’s such a counter-productive thing to their goals, banning me for arguing with them but then losing the ability to actually combat the things I say, is really, catastrophically fucking stupid, if your goal is to spread communism. Because now I’m a ghost that other people can still hear that can obliterate their arguments without them getting to respond, every time I see one.
But, it’s also the kind of thing a kid would do. Ban what they don’t like.
I also have always been strongly of the opinion they’re all on avg, junior high kids. Mainly because I also really liked communism in junior high, but they also just sound like it usually.
Some of them are quite brilliant actually, but there’s only so much good that can do when your education is still limited.
The administration of this Instance has a moderate lean towards not defederating in general, they have to be pushed in general. I would describe LW as a free speech leaning Instance, within the Lemmy environment.
Naturally the topic is very divisive overall and tends to draw heated arguments no matter what position is taken. Free speech absolutists find it downright draconian. I imagine being on Beehaw for longer than five minutes might reduce them to ash, I’m not sure.
You know… I don’t think I’m going to have a drink today.
I agree. A hard limit would be a good idea, it’d nip a lot of problems in the bud.
I’m as idealist as the next guy, but I was also a hellacious misfit once, so I know what it feels like to be a hate-fueled asshole. I really hope these Fediverse idealists have started to understand that assholes do exist, and they must take measures to defend themselves.
Combat is a part of life. Violence is an aspect of competitive biology. You’re gonna have to deal with attacks here. Forever. Just get the fuck used to it, you’re at war and will be until you die or leave this place. Largely due to politics and the way open communication has not just empowered good people to create good things, but has also empowered extremists and criminals too. And they exist and have goals too, in case any of you people fucking forgot.
Dingding.
I also think we’ve caught the attention of some haters that just don’t like hopeful people or nice things.
Glad to hear. Obviously this is less than ideal, but working towards solutions is what’s important.
So you’re saying people have been sensitized due to being banned/blocked/shadowbanned/whatever on the major services, and are thus having some kind of knee-jerk reaction to any and all blocks to participation here? Because we are certainly not a corporation. We’re just individuals, who have individual freedom.
Including the freedom to block people from our hardware.
Sure, whatever. Still hoping someone can answer my question.
Ah, a slippery slope/exaggeration argument.
Still doesn’t answer my question though.
This argument keeps showing up again and again. “The point of the Fediverse is to stay connected.”
Someone want to point out the logic that is supposed to underlie this? Because I think a small subset of people has just completely made it up themselves.
As far as I can see, we were given tools for things like defederation and blocking for a reason. Those tools did not need to get made, that took someone’s time and investment, so it must’ve been pretty important if they already got around to it.
Some people enjoy causing suffering to others. On the internet they are termed trolls. Irl people usually just call them assholes. Most people have encountered them before.
I think they are far more common and likely than anyone giving two shits about reddit.
New to me too. I want to eat one.
I’m imagining kiwi-stawberry, but frankly that’s just my animal brain drawing stupidly simple connections.
