Vivaldi-to-Firefox here with a little insight! Firefox addons can have the permission to hide tabs, and there are addons that take good advantage of this. Simple Tab Groups can essentially replicate Vivaldi Workspaces, as well as Sidebery if you want something a bit more on steroids in the form of a sidebar.

While I’ve got you here, I’ve had issues with Vivaldi not being able to block Google search results I don’t want to see. Might’ve been me not setting my blocklist up properly, but it works on Firefox with uBlock Origin and Safari with Adguard. Seems like Vivaldi doesn’t support some of the more advanced filtering that Letsblock.it uses for that - AdGuard works.

The loudest parts of the userbase can change the perceptions of software to outsiders, very much like fandoms.

Floorp is Firefox with Vivaldi-style tweaks. Part of it is what Firefox really should be right now.

If you’re a minimalist, I can vouch for Pulse Browser, with sidebar tabs (native to Pulse, similar to Edge) and Simple Tab Groups, it’s great.

Linux has a learning curve that’s steep to the average Windows or Mac user. The guys suggesting Arch are saying it’s easier than the other distros, but you have to remember that most of those coming from the other two aren’t going to know what a command line is. I had to guide someone through it when they wanted to install VMware on Pop!_OS, I would not put them on Arch. (And to those suggesting the AUR, that still needs a command line and now you need to inspect the PKGBUILD for security purposes.)

Honestly, as a Firefox user, I agree. The Firefox evangelism gets too much for me that I’m genuinely concerned it’s going cult-like. There’s over-enthusiasm (in which I’ve fell victim to) and then there’s hounding people for bothering to choose a Chromium-based browser.

I use Firefox because it works best for most of my web-browsing workflows, but it has its issues - split screen tabs is one, it helps with my workflow for submitting database entries to MusicBrainz or RateYourMusic. Vivaldi has it, Firefox doesn’t, so I’ll use Vivaldi when I need to, even if I think Firefox has a bit more polish than Vivaldi. That being said, Vivaldi is more willing to add features that power users coming from Firefox or old, Presto-era Opera want.

I do feel like the evangelism is actually toned down in the Firefox-specific Lemmy community, oddly enough (at least on lemmy.ml). In fact, the top post as of this comment is complaining about the privacy issues with Firefox’s upcoming Fakespot integration, and the comments are in agreement.

For me, PayPal said nothing until I called them. I made an expensive purchase via PayPal, they bounced it back with no notification that it was bounced back whatsoever, making it a headache for me and the seller. I had to make sure that it wasn’t going out twice, which thankfully it didn’t but the lack of an error message or anything was so unhelpful.

I just used my card straight-up after that. The card was under Visa, so it was subject to Visa’s checks as well as the bank’s own (where you can use SMS or app-based verification).

I was so close to getting LTT merch once. Glad I avoided that.

For regular gaming experiences, WINE and Proton are brilliant. For some .NET stuff it’s still lacking. On WINE, MusicBee for example lacks proper CJK font redirection and dragging the tabs on it causes MusicBee to throw errors. You might also run into issues gaming if you have certain setups + controllers too.

I should ask my friend in IT about this to confirm.
