I never made any comment on my opinion towards the application of the term. I only pointed out that it’s used differently, for reasons determined by social factors, and that more specific language eliminates confusion.

What you’re describing sounds like verbal and emotional abuse. You can call it that. It’s okay to say that you have been verbally abused before. I don’t know you, nor can I make any kind of sweeping declarative statements based on 2 sentences a random person has sent me. But I assume that you feel you were abused and I am in no way invalidating that.

I think a significant part of this is rooted in how those two sentences are usually used socially to denote different things. Men routinely describe their wife being upset at them in any capacity as yelling at them. When a woman says her husband is yelling at her she usually doesn’t mean that he got upset that she said something insensitive about him, she usually means that her husband had a bad day and came home to hurl misogynistic slurs and vague threats at his wife. Or that she didn’t want to have sex and he became enraged at her.

Verbal abuse is a serious issue that also happens to men but would usually come with some kind of clarification from the speaker. As it is socially less common for men to feel comfortable enough to talk about their experiences with physical and emotional abuse. Women by and large suffer on an almost entire class basis from these things, and our language reflects that. Nobody decided it is that way, it’s a byproduct of violence against women. The most accurate application of the language would be “my spouse is verbally/mentally/emotionally abusing me” and it does yield pretty consistent results for husband/wife.

There’s already dozens of forks. There was before all of this even started. Sad to see it go, but the app itself and how it functions will pretty well certainly go on. Tachiyomi isn’t even an app that needs routine updates, it’s the extensions that do. So existing setups will probably work indefinitely so long as extensions continue getting updates…

So, sounds very “oh fuck” but for end users probably means literally nothing changes. Unless something breaks the functionality of the app, which really just means the reader and library and everything, it doesn’t need active maintenance. Bugs might crop up occasionally, but everything looks fine as of now.

Unofficial extensions are still being updated. I’ve got working bato and everything. Haven’t run into issues so far. I’m not sure how this korean company got to them or why, since they’re not even hosting the content. But either way, things should be good for now.

Tachiyomi is too good to fail. It’s the best manga reader that has ever existed. It’s open source. If they need to offload extension support onto less organized entities, then so be it. The community isn’t going to disappear.

Someone will surely find a workaround to this. Half my library on tachiyomi is from mangadex lol

Edit: I did find a workaround, an unofficial repository for mangadex and bato extensions. As of the moment bato extension seems to be broken, but hopefully a patch will be released soon. The developer of the extension still plans to maintain it afaik

I dont even have root. You download the apk for the recommended version of YouTube, which the revanced manager app tells you, select it - it auto picks all the patches - hit apply, wait - then hit install. Takes maybe 2 minutes to install. Then you’re done. Never once had any difficulty beyond that. One time I used a different youtube version than what was recommended, worked fine just didn’t have all the patches.

I dunno why you were trying to sideload it. That’s not necessary. You can do all this in, I’ll be generous and say 15-20 minutes. I’ve done it a few times now and done it for others too, so it usually only takes me 5 to 10. Depends on how fast their phone is to patch the apk.

Throw in another minute to fully disable the official YouTube app and route all YouTube links to open with revanced and you’re set.

My revanced setup literally shows as “Youtube” and functions identically, with sponsorblocking and adblocking. It let me disable shorts entirely and use the click-bait thumbnail circumventer. Took me 5 minutes to setup. I see a video on any app and click on it and it opens up in revanced no problem.

You don’t have to always be ahead. I’ve been using revanced for years now without problems. Before that Vanced. My computer has had ublock origin with 0 issues for years prior to the recent changes. To resolve those I literally had to click 2 buttons in the UI. Bam no ads. Have had no problems since. The time I’ve invested in configuring adblocking since I started watching YouTube, sometime around 2008-9, has probably amounted to 20 minutes of time.

You’re certainly not showing any socialist leanings if you’re literally calling on me to “think of the commercial developers”. Capitalists are class enemies. Excluding them makes this a space for the working class. Thats a great thing, there is no other major social media free from capitalist profiteering.

Content creators can use patron or other more direct methods of earning from content they post here. Capitalist middlemen profiting off of ad placement be damned.

I was just going to say, handbrake is a good way to cut back a bit on file size if you get the settings right. It is very taxing on hardware tho.

I’m not saying that all leftists aren’t bigots or that bigotry never happens in leftist spaces, but bigotry is the rule in fascist ones. Fascism is bigotry, it’s a core part of the ideology itself. For that reason they’re not comparable.

You can’t be a fascist and not be bigoted. You can be a marxist-leninist and not as a rule hate minorities. I encourage you to go to lemmygrad yourself, see if you find any hatred of minorities being tolerated there. You just won’t.

I can coexist in a space with them, they’re not going to start calling for the genocide of minority groups. They will deny that genocides have happened, which to be clear is bad but there’s a fundamental difference between “these events didnt happen” and a fascist saying “let’s mass murder all the minorities because they’re biologically impure”. I can coexist in a space with one, with the other my murder or the murder of any other marginalized group is as a rule being outright advocated for.

Leftism should be tolerated because leftism advocates for the rights of the workers. Leftism is the way the world can and should be. Whichever flavor of it, they’re all better than fascism. And wherever fascists will gather their sole purpose is to propagate hatred against minorities. Leftists are overwhelming welcoming and accepting of minorities. They are no threat to the acceptance of marginalized peoples.
