    Have you read the report?

I haven’t read it all, but from reading like a couple paragraphs it says that the Chinese government is making mass incarcerations with accusations of extremism and terrorism, while these terms are not well defined and it appears that they are only targeting Muslims for their religion. Furthermore in these jails it appears that the Chinese government is doing things like forced injections, forcing people to take pills and other classics like torture, waterboarding and rape, invasive gynecological exams etc.

Inmates are forbidden to pray with guards making rounds at night to ensure compliance, being forbidden to speak their own language or practice anything from their culture. Prominent scholars, artists and intellectuals are being incarcerated, people are forbidden to leave the region or to receive or send money from the outside.

If it were Israel doing this, and they are doing this, you’d call it genocide, wouldn’t you?

Or doesn’t Uyghurstan have the same right to exist as Palestine?

  • I work for a plastic recycling plant manufacturer, specifically for the sorting, shredding, cleaning and drying steps of plastic recycling (after that you usually have melting and extrusion before ending up with small plastic pellets that can be used to make other stuff).

I can confirm you, we have “cycling filtered grey water” cleaning. You don’t need to clean up your plastic containers, just empty them. Also various chemicals will be used in the process, when necessary.

We also make de-labelers to remove the labels from plastic bottles, although this kind of label in the picture is extremely hard to remove and, afaik, either requires human labor (aka poor countries with labor conditions you don’t want to think about) or just becomes waste. So yeah, this is some of the worst shit.

  • I don’t. Looked it up on Google, not that hard. I also never use git from the terminal, I know I could, but I don’t and if you were to ask me off the top of my head how to use it from the cli, I probably wouldn’t be able. Not because I can’t use git, I just can’t be bothered to remember all the commands when a gui is available and does the exact same thing I needed to do anyway. If and when I’ll need to use the terminal for git, I’ll check the docs for the exact syntax.

Again, knowing the exact syntax it’s not what defines a software engineer, IMO.

  • Tbf, I looked it up on Google. I know you can do everything you can with Visual Studio also in the CLI, but never bothered checking out the specific commands. 2 second search on Google returned donet build.

A software engineer isn’t defined by what commands he knows or what functions he can remember off the top of his head or what languages he used to write hello world. Those are easily Googlable things that have little to no value irl. The ability to actually solve a problem or build an architecture, a system, even if only in pseudocode is much much more valuable than knowing any specific command.

Case in point, I routinely Google stuff I already used or self reference previous code I’ve written cause I can’t remember how I did certain things. Nothing wrong with that.
