Are specials requestable in jellyseerr? They aren’t in overseerr, so they have to be manually requested in sonarr. Also, sonarr uses tvdb and as I understand it, it’s unlikely to ever support tmdb, so if jellyseerr uses tmdb like overseerr does, then that could be another source of confusion if there are differences.

For now if you use sonarr you just have to accept tvdb and set other things to use tvdb where possible (Plex and jellyfin), and accept mismatches where it can’t be changed (like overseerr / possibly jellyseerr too since it’s a fork)

That looks like an imax release, maybe the top/bottom black bars are on the Blu-ray it was ripped from to make it fit 16:9? Since it’s a remux they shouldn’t have touched it to remove the bars.

It doesn’t need to be realtime since you can pre generate an srt with time codes beforehand using something like bazarr. Whisper also runs faster than realtime in most model sizes, up to 32x realtime so it can really be worth it to add auto subtitles to media in your collection that’s missing subtitles as a one time job.

Do you get ads in the subtitles though?

I haven’t used opensubtitles much but have been considering setting up bazarr, using a source that embeds ads in subtitles would be a non starter for me.

I would even be totally willing to pay for increased download limits but not if it means supporting putting ads in the free subtitles.

If you have good home upload and want to host at home, a simple reverse proxy on the vps provider of your choice does the trick. I host for a large group of friends and family and it all proxies through haproxy running on digitalocean.

I’ve been downloading tons of my Spotify music using spotdl and sticking it on Plex, which kinda accomplishes most of what you want. I then organize it with lidarr. Spotdl doesn’t actually download from Spotify but it uses Spotify metadata to tag files after matching with and downloading from YouTube music, it might just use youtube-dl/p under the hood but being able to give it a Spotify playlist, artist, or album url from Spotify makes it super convenient. For some artists I just download the entire artist in one go.

Last time it stopped working for me I just needed to update revanced manager, make sure the patches were updated on the main screen, and re patch the recommended APK version which had increased. They’ve done a pretty good job at keeping up

Oh yeah that’s annoying, I just search for the version on apkpure or apkmirror and usually one of those will have a standard APK I can download and select for patching.

I’m unrooted and I use revanced manager to patch YT and didn’t notice anything about needing root. I use the change package name patch so I can have the official YouTube app installed side by side with the revanced version since Chromecasting only works for me in the official app.

I think the main point of replacing sms with rcs is that it would be the default preinstalled carrier-agnostic-protocol messaging app on everyone’s phones. If signal could be preinstalled and be an open platform instead of using centralized servers then I think that would achieve the same thing. But because it isn’t, it can’t be the lowest common denominator that everyone falls back to if you and someone else don’t have the same messaging app preferences.

Right now, you can say “use signal” all you want, but if you make a friend who isn’t interested in installing a messaging app, you have to fall back to sms. Rcs is just about making a better fallback option that people won’t refuse to download because it’s ubiquitous and supported by even the default preinstalled messaging apps.

I do use jellyfin, I run it side by side with Plex on the same Intel nuc with quick sync - both with the exact same media folders added - and I let my friends choose. I don’t think a single one of them prefer jellyfin unfortunately.

Plex has a reverse proxying service and can do upnp for you so it works with dynamic IPs out of the box with no need for a domain or forwarding ports. It defaults to upnp and falls back to the Plex hosted reverse proxy which also uses a dynamically generated subdomain and gives you a free SSL cert. Granted I prefer to host my own reverse proxy anyway with my own domain (when I had a static IP I just forwarded a port and set up an A record) but out of the box Plex does make it much easier for a non technical user to hit the ground running.

For me the math worked out that it was cheaper to get a nuc with quick sync than to pay for the extra storage h264 uses, it’s less than half the bitrate (usually ~2Mbit for 1080 compared to 8+), I have 23TB of content and my Intel nuc power efficiently transcodes to h264 on demand if the device needs it.

I use both plex and jellyfin and my files are on a nas. Previously truenas but now synology. I just mount my collection over smb to my Intel nuc with quick sync so that Plex/jellyfin can provide me and my friends a slick UI as well as transcoding (can store stuff in hevc, flac, 5.1 or 7.1 dts hd ma and not worry about codec support on each device), a nice web player with subtitles /audio track selection, and nice apps on every device to access the collection.

But yeah NAS and jellyfin aren’t mutually exclusive, many people use them together.

I just downloaded infinity to give it a shot and I find the UI to be a little rougher around the edges. The most noticeable is the layout of posts on the feed - the icons dont look like they are consistent sizes and the lack of grouping compared to Sync (like having a box around both vote and vote count) makes it look more cluttered. I also think the default theme color (the intense blue color) kinda hurts my eyes because it’s too high contrast maybe, so changing that was the first thing I did- I think having a milder default would provide a better out of the box experience.

I have no major gripes about the base functionality, they’re both functional enough for me but the aesthetics of sync win for now. Also it seems like both sync and infinity don’t collapse the comment you pressed and only the replies, making it seemingly impossible to collapse top level comments which inconveniences how I read threads, by collapsing top level comments as I go down the thread - long top comments stay expanded so I have to scroll past a lot more.

Those are my first impressions based on never using either sync or infinity (be it lemmy or reddit) before like this week.

Edit: Just downloaded Connect too, looks very similar to Sync in level of polish so I think those will probably be my top 2

I think it’s ok. The problem is my wallpaper is a cat so everything material you is like light coffee colored which I don’t really like. But I’m too lazy to find a better color that doesn’t look worse.
