  • I worked in healthcare tech for a long time and I would say that healthcare facilities should focus on delivering healthcare. We had so much administrative overhead from dealing with this insurance bullshit that it drove up costs to staff a ton of people to deal with insurance bullshit and thus increased costs. If we had single payer it would be a single process that couldn’t possibly be more convoluted than what we have now. Sending shit to insurance clearing houses with exact ordering of diagnosis matching procedures so that they don’t get kicked back. The hospital doesn’t want you dealing with this shit either they just want the money that the insurance provider said it would pay for your treatment. It’s 90% insurance bullshit all the way down.

  • They do not forget! I had Comcast/Xfinity from 2005-2022. They wanted to charge me for an old cable box from 2005 that I didn’t have when I cancelled service. Turns out it was in the back of my garage and super rusty but they accepted it. They also said that while they would charge me if I didn’t have it, they are going to throw it out as it’s no longer supported and corroded.

  • I’m not sure that people want to legislate against AI as much as they want to find a way to legislate for the fair outcomes associated with AI productivity. The challenge is that is harder to do. In the USA we can’t get out of our own way to properly tax corporations, nevermind have a more complex solution like reduce worker hours, increase PTO based upon improved societal output. In the absence of a complex but comprehensive solution (which I don’t think we have the capability to pull off) people are desperate and saying things like “let’s hold back on AI will we can put together this mythical great plan”. We’re never going to get the great plan though. Hopefully I’m just cynical but I don’t see a path (at least for the US as I can’t speak for the rest of the world) that doesn’t continue towards dystopia.
