I’m an American, and I can’t explain this to you. If I saw this on a receipt, I would write down on it that I’m tipping $0 because of the service fee and to consider the fee my tip.

You can have bots in Teams although I haven’t found any particularly useful ones yet.

I meant more of writing them yourself. My old company used Mattermost, and we wrote a bot to choose where to eat for lunch each day. It would pick 3 choices from a list that anyone could add to, and we would vote on those three options or veto.

I like having the option to make my own bots.

The only time I have had it not be able to use my mic was when I had some issue with my whole computer and no app could use my mic. It could have been a driver crash or something. But other than that, I haven’t had that issue. Slack ALWAYS has that issue for me, though.

For missing features, you can’t add custom emojis, you can’t have bots, searching chat history is horrible (almost to the point where it’s not usable), there’s no markdown for spoilers, code blocks, italics, etc. so you have to click the buttons for it (not sure if spoilers even exist in Teams), code blocks are really clunky, you can’t link other conversations.

When my work briefly used Slack, it was really nice for text chat. But some teams just didn’t switch, and there’s just so much value having everyone on one platform. Fragmenting users was very counterproductive, so we went back to Teams.

I’m not a huge fan of Teams, as it lacks critical features that alternatives have. But I’ve never experienced anything that would make me say it’s broken. What exactly are you referring to?

I did mine in about 30 seconds. Most of that was just making a backup of my old one.

I guess I worry about when it happens. I haven’t seen anything like that yet, so I see no point in doing anything about it.

I don’t need to worry about the instance going down due to attacks, because no one is going to spend their time attacking an instance with one person. They want to attack an instance with everyone.

I also don’t need to worry about defederation drama. If I’m not subscribed to any communities on those problem instances, I don’t even see the problem, and my server doesn’t rehost those problems. I was originally on lemmy.world, and then Beehaw defederate with lemmy.world. But I wanted to see Beehaw’s content. Now I can see both. No one is going to defederate with me because no one on my instance (literally just me) is doing anything that would get us defederated.

I also don’t need to wait for my instance to update to get new features. I literally just update my instance as soon it gets posted to Docker Hub.

I also just find it fun to host my own! I already had my domain name and wasn’t using it for anything. I already had a server ready to go. So why not?

I host my instance in my house on my old PC. I’m going to pay my power bill either way. It actually autopays. So if I had a medical emergency and couldn’t do my admin duties, my instance would keep on going for a very long time.

I don’t have any users on my instance other than me, so I don’t need to worry about this specific thing. But paying the miniscule amount of power that my server consumes would be trivial.

My employer is in the graphic, but they immediately stopped all business in Russia after the invasion and even helped get former employees and their families out. They gave the employees they had to let go a 12 month severance package.

It is in Texas. I have a pretty small car, and when I lived in California, I was constantly barely able to fit in parking spaces. In Texas, the parking spaces are huge to fit the trucks. It’s so nice.
