  • enjoying personal freedom : not subject to the control or domination of another

    Merriam webster dictionary definition 2D.

That is a definition people use when discussing libre software. The software is under YOUR control. If adobe says “fuck you, you don’t get the brush tool anymore” thats it for the brush tool. If gimp gets rid of a feature in the main branch, you can say “no fuck you I like this tool” and can just keep the code base that included it still.

Also you have a rather perscriptive understanding of language, which just simply isn’t how language works. Languages evolve over time. Open up a dictionary and see how many definitions are listed as antiquated. Those are definitions that aren’t used anymore as they fell out of favor.

Now get off your high horse about how words aren’t the same as they used to be or how words are frozen to definitions.

  • Yeah, I’m in the IT dept (companys conatantly flop between throwing software into engineering, IT, or its own dept) and the other day, 5 minutes before I leave for a week long vacation a user comes up and asks if we’re ignoring her.

Outlook is constantly asking for a password to one of the emails she uses. She doesn’t know it and keeps clicking close on the popup. So she sends an email, FROM THE ACCOUNT SHE IS LOGGED OUT OF, to helpdesk a few days earlier.

  • Seriously. Another comment pointed out there’s “not enough money” and “enough money” for wages. Depending on which side you’re on money may not be the reason someone quits. My previous job paid me enough, but the business partner was so dangerously incompetent, reckless, agressive, and unwilling to do their own job that I quit out of frustration. I made it very clear to my boss’ boss that it wasn’t about money, and I wasn’t going to tell them what my new compensation was. It isn’t his business. My issue was the business partner. Within a few months a few other people quit working there too for the same reason.
