The default phones set only report in when it’s one of a few devices contributing to the location of a lost device. You have to go in to settings to change it to report for all devices all the time which would make it more useful when not lost in a place like an airport or shopping center.

Same I’ve been reading up on it and still skeptical but going to get a few tags here in a few months.

Reading up on the blog posts and technical overviews for the new Find My Device network all of it seems well anonimized and local device to device coms not using GPS, and can be declined if needed.

I don’t have a pixel (literally) though so graphene isn’t an option but thanks.

I had an unlocked S20, didn’t come with Facebook or any extra bloat besides the Samsung duo apps, uninstalled a couple of them myself and updates were just a restart and it works similar to one plus phones I’ve had. My wife got an S23 from our carrier and hers came with carrier apps, McAfee security, Facebook, etc and every update she got ads and all kinds of weird popups. I think the carrier devices are giving the bad rap

I am missing good lock features going from a Samsung to a more google oriented phone, also the clock\alarm settings are so annoying, only allowed to touch either volume buttons or specific portion of the phone to snooze or stop an alarm. Samsung I could whip my hand at my phone and hit any portion and it knew what I wanted

Unlocked US devices don’t have bloat or easily uninstallable outside of adb/github help just commenting

I am the exact opposite, my last two devices have been Samsung and one plus before that, now I have a nothing phone with lots of google stuff and constantly am thwarted by Bluetooth, calls, home screen freezes and a clock/alarm setup with the worst ergonomics of any phone.

I have crazy bad astigmatism and work in a bright room and still cannot stand light mode on anything

I used to use Swiftkey for a long while and switched to AnySoftKeyboard 2 years ago and for single language Swype capable keyboard it’s the best replacement I’ve found.

That’s a fair point. My old bank which was pretty terrible I never installed their app and found the app just loaded a mobile version of their website so I just used that.

Maybe not ideal but I’m sure the web version of your banking app would work through a browser.

AnySoftKeyboard and got 54wpm 95% accuracy. Better than I thought I would get

I had an unlocked S20 for 3 years and battery life was great until I dropped it twice in as many months and it stopped working. Was simple to disable things running in the background. Didn’t notice much difference to stock android and lineageOS personally. Just tossing out another viewpoint

If you buy an unlocked phone not from a carrier it’s not that bad at all really. Samsung dupes are easily disabled in the settings.

It’s broken right now so I cannot check again to verify, but I had an S20 FE direct from Samsung in the US and none of those options were available in developer options.

Betweeen newer androids it’s RCS now and between Apple devices it’s imessage so it’s only going between the two because Apple refuses to bridge the gap because people are so used to that setup. However now a lot of my friends, coworkers and neighbors have Telegram now so don’t need to worry about the specific device.

My friends said they had a button pop up to instead send as SMS yesterday. Beeper sent notifications the service was down and shortly after my number was deregistered with imessage without me having to do anything.
