I thought it was common practice for ISPs to block certain ports for residential connections?

I’ve just tried it and it’s not for me.

I quite like the hidden gestures on Nova. I hide my security related apps and use gestures on certain things to bring them up. Yes, it is a layer of security through obscurity and I know the Reddit/Lemmy echo chamber says it’s a bad thing, but I respectfully disagree.

If so, alternatively, you can just add your own DNS server to the phone via the private DNS option. Eg. base.dns.mullvad.net.

In my country hospitals and the like tend to call with hidden numbers, so it wouldn’t work here.

On Android you don’t have to save the number, you can just block it. I’m not sure if this is true for all Android phones.

I think the only downside to Textra is that it doesn’t support RCS - or I don’t believe it does. They have a newer app called Chomp SMS that does. I’m still using Textra because the only communication I get on it is from companies.

In the same era, we had things like LimeWire where files were frequently viruses, CP, or similar masquerading as innocent files like the latest song from your favorite artist.

I’ve never tried closed trackers, so I can’t speak on that side of pirate life but I think it’s naive to trust pirates on public trackers.

Viruses don’t behave like a neanderthal like they used to 20 years ago, so just because you don’t notice a virus doesn’t mean you don’t have one. Let’s be honest, viruses are still a thing and botnets have become a thing. These don’t magically appear from nothing.

You shouldn’t be blindly trusting anyone on the internet, especially those not abiding by the laws. People and entities can be impersonated. They can behave differently at any moment.

Personally i would do one of three things, run pirated content, in a VM, on a separate drive, or on a dedicated computer - because why take the risk when you don’t have to.

I don’t use Reddit as much as I used to since the API change. I also don’t use Lemmy much either. It feels different since that moment to me. Both feel quite divisive and don’t get me wrong, Reddit was divisive before the change but it feels like it’s got a lot worse.

This is standard perpetual licensing seen across many software.

One off payment = you get a perpetual license for the major version of the software including all patches for it.

Subscription = you pay a smaller fee than the one off payment per annum. You get all updates and patches. But when you stop paying, you don’t get anymore updates or patches and you can lose access to the software.
