Censoring in computer games. Here in Germany, a lot of games were censored aggressively when I was young, because God forbid the youth is able to play games in their original form! They will turn to the dark side when they see some red pixels! Politics got even worse when we had a school shooting incident (not that regular here) and the attacker played a video game.

A lot of games where either not available at all or we had robots, green blood or missing assets in them.

I also liked to listen to electronic music (still do), but I grew up in North-East Germany and the only radio stations here played pop, rock and old people music. Couldn’t tape techno music, was too poor to buy it (and too far away from a good store anyway), so I looked on the web and found a lot of great stuff.

I still remember the first online music stores, with horrible DRM and 128kbps WMA files…it was not a good time.

For a while I had Netflix and Spotify, almost didn’t pirate anything anymore. Then Spotify started draining my phone’s battery, they didn’t shuffle properly anymore and I got recommended songs that were definitely sponsored (fuck you, A State of Trance). Netflix lost a lot of content and we got many more streaming services in return. So here we are again.

Dann bin ich mit 2.000 netto (bei 32h) wohl krasse Oberschicht.

Ich bin letztes Jahr auf rspamd gewechselt und es ist super angenehm. War aber auch dezent nervig einzurichten.

• Günstiger Hetzner-Serverbörse-Server mit Seafile drauf

“Iperius Backup” kann noch alte Tapedrives ansteuern. Ich konnte damit ein altes DDS3-Bandlaufwerk unter Windows 10 betreiben. Hatte das vor ca. 2 Jahren mal getestet.

Laut deren Webseite kann auch die neuste Version das noch, auch wenn der Fokus mittlerweile auf Cloud liegt.

Ich habe mir ein NAS selbst gebaut und dabei ein paar tolle Entdeckungen gemacht.

1. Das CFI A-7879 V2 ist ein richtig geiles Gehäuse mit 4 Hotplug SATA-Slots zum kleinen Preis.
2. Openmediavault ist selbst für absolute Deppen total einfach zu bedienen, mit wenigen Klicks in der WebGUI ist damit ein RAID1 aufgesetzt.
3. Es gibt eine Menge toller OMV-Plugins. Owntone zum Streamen der eigenen Musiksammlung, PhotoPrism zum Verwalten der Fotosammlung uvm. Auch Apple-spezifische Protokolle wie AirPlay und DAAP sind mit drin.

Ich hätte mir ein fertiges NAS für mehr Geld kaufen können, aber ein Gehäuse mit nem Mini-ITX-Board und 2x12TB Enterprise HDDs hat mich weit weniger gekostet. Pro-Tip: Ein LSI HBA im IT-Mode nehmen, um die Festplatten anzusteuern. Ich hab ein 9205-8i, es läuft super stabil und out-of-the-box. Bei /r/datahoarders wird das von vielen Leuten auch empfohlen.

Na das ist ja immerhin schonmal ein Anfang. :) Es ist ja auch nicht alles schlecht. Der Multimonitor-Support ist mit Win11 richtig gut geworden und dass es sich die Anordnung der Programmfenster merkt und beim Anschließen wiederherstellt, finde ich super.

Konnte KDE zwar vorher schon sehr lange, aber besser als nie. :D

Welche Features sollte sich Microsoft sonst noch von der Konkurrenz abschauen?

Paketmanager. Ja es gibt chocolatey, aber ich will sowas offiziell von Microsoft endorsed und als primäre Methode, um Software zu installieren und aktualisieren. Weg von unsäglichen .exe-Dateien und .msi-Paketen, die sind grauenhaft.

Weg von den nagging screens. Wenn ich keinen Edge und kein Microsoft-Konto will, dann fragt mich beim Setup vielleicht EIN Mal und lasst mich danach für immer in Ruhe damit. Immer wieder neue Popups alle paar Wochen, die man nur durch undurchsichtige und merkwürdig benannte Optionen in den Systemeinstellungen dauerhaft abschalten kann, nerven. Meinetwegen können sie ja gerne eine werbeverseuchte Gratisvariante anbieten, aber bitte auch ein kostenpflichtiges Windows ohne diesen ganzen Kram.

Eine anpassbare Taskleiste wie ich sie von KDE kenne. Ich will eine schmale Leiste mit ungruppierten Schaltflächen, die auch Text enthalten. Das Startmenü von Windows 11 ist eine Kulmination aus den schlechtesten Dingen, die sich Apple ausgedacht hat. Es sieht hübsch aus, hat aber enorm an Funktionalität eingebüßt. Ich muss arbeiten und nicht rumspielen, das können gerne die Applefuzzies machen.

Kein Outlook. Diese Software ist so ein Stück Dreck. Ich wurde jahrelang durch meinen Arbeitgeber gezwungen, den Müll zu benutzen und dass das Teil zwischen all den Bugs es noch geschafft hat, ab und an E-Mails anzuzeigen war schon ein Wunder.

Ich finde es seit Windows 11 ganz in Ordnung, bevorzuge aber immer noch meinen Plasma-Desktop. Aber setz’ mich nicht an einen MacOS-Rechner, da raste ich aus mit dieser gruseligen Oberfläche, deren Konzept sich seit Next nicht nennenswert verbessert hat. Frage mich immer wieder, wie Leute ernsthaft damit arbeiten können, ohne durchzudrehen.

Oh nein. :( Hatte vor einigen Jahren mal mit ihm Kontakt, als ich noch einen Mumble-Server betrieben habe. Dort hat er ab und zu vorbeigeschaut und wir haben uns in der Community zusammen unterhalten.

Die Welt ist manchmal so klein…

Laut aktueller Zahlen hat die IT den geringsten Krankenstand aller Berufsgruppen.

Bei einer 32h-Woche, Freitags frei und ausschlafen bis 12 Uhr werde ich auch einfach nicht mehr so oft krank wie zu Zeiten, in denen ich Schichtarbeit und 40h+ gemacht habe. Die Arbeitsbedingungen in der IT sind teilweise richtig geil und selbst wenn sie nur “normal” sind, immer noch besser als z.B. im Gesundheitswesen.

I used an Exynos S8 up to December of last year and it’s still blazingly fast. And the consensus on xdaforums seems to be that the Qualcomm variant from the US is terrible. :) Weird, but maybe I’m wrong and I just got used to a slow device. I mean, I had a Sony Xperia XA2 before and that thing was so slow, everything else felt like The Flash. :D

It’s the good one. As far as I know, Exynos phones are much faster than the Snapdragon variants. Custom ROMs like LineageOS are only available for Exynos phones, so those are the only ones still getting updates.

The S8 is pretty nice, but only the Exynos variant. I hated the glass back, though. Shattered mine two times, one time the phone just fell 30 centimeters out of bed. Gorilla Glass only in the front was a deliberate decision by these bastards.

Yeah unfortunately that Custom ROM scene is dying out

I feel like recent Android has gotten good enough for me that I don’t really need custom ROMs anymore. As long as I can still root the stock ROM and install AdAway, I’m fine.

Ich bin durch Louis Rossmann auf die App gestoßen, weil er sie in einem seiner Videos erwähnt hatte. Hab’ die dann mal aus Spaß ausprobiert und nutze sie jetzt regelmäßig. Ich könnte lange Sätze auf einer Touch-Tastatur eintippen, oder einsprechen. Sprechen fällt mir leichter. :)

Die Spracherkennung funktioniert wunderbar und das ohne mein Audio in die Cloud zu senden.

Das wäre ja tatsächlich mal eine sinnvolle Nutzung der Technologie, nach dem ganzen NFT-Schrott & Buzzword-Bingo in den letzten Jahren.
