All the projects that have shittier outcomes in my experience is always waterfall. This is mainly because the stakeholders usually have this bright idea to be added in the middle of development that’s really need to be added at all costs and then got angry when the timeline got pushed because of their fucking request breaking a lot of shit.

At least scrum has a lead time of around 2 weeks so that when someone has a idea we can tell them we’ll add it to the backlog and hope they forgot about it during the next sprint planning.

Ohhh that’s me right now. I work in a consultancy and I only got assigned to projects that are on fire. It’s almost 24 months without a gap between projects. Help me ಥ⁠_⁠ಥ

A good PM is rare because as soon as you get one, they’ll get poached within a few months.

My company started with full stack devs only and we’ve transitioned to specialized back end and front end since we realized that 1 specialized BE Engineer and 1 specialized FE Engineer can work faster with better quality than having 2 Full Stack Engineers.

I usually just do what they requested and when they come to complain I just tell them “well, you’re the one who requested this” and pull up receipts. My DM to myself on Slack is filled with screenshots and links to confirmations for bullshit requests that the product team made.

It’s just telling the computer in a very detailed way. Are you monolingual? I think the concept of learning how to code is easier if you speak more than one language.

TBH that statement rings true. It’s so much easier to make a fit look good if you’re skinny. Also, when you’re doing a photoshoot there’s always the possibility of the model bailing at the last minute. So, to keep the photoshoot going with another model you don’t need to keep multiple sizes just slap that clothing on and use clips to make it fit nice.

Also this is anecdotal, my partner is 5’5 and weighs 90 lbs and it’s so easy for them to make an outfit it’s crazy.

Smartphones have reached a point where it’s more like a PC, where the limiting factor for the phones to get a software update is pretty much arbitrary based on the manufacturer’s decision. If the ROG Phone II is still supported today, I’ll be definitely still using that phone.

This 7 year update promise makes me think that Google are planning to do further modularization of Android to make it similar to desktop OS where the driver is not as tightly coupled to the OS build installed. As one of the main issues when you’re trying to update an Android phone OS is the SoC manufacturer not providing any updates for it so you’re SOL if you want to update your Android smartphone OS.

Apple enjoys a vertical integration for their devices to help them keep updating their devices for 5 or more years.

I’m hoping Samsung would be pushed to top this when they’re releasing the S24 series and some of the older devices will also get upgraded to a longer software upgrade period. I just upgraded to a Fold5 after using Asus ROG Phone II for four years and messing with custom ROMs (the ROG Phone II just have one year of OS updates) just to stay up to date in regards to security and software updates is not as fun as it was a dozen years ago.

Depending on the country you might not be able to do that. In some countries you have strict emission guidelines where cars older than 5 years need to be certified that they output emission below a certain threshold. It’s good for the environment, but if you live in a place that has shit public transportation it can force you to get new cars and spend much more than required to have a car that suits your needs.
