Imagine in 100 years that footbath is rotting in a pile somewhere. Some desperate little creature is being stalked by some terrifying predator. Just as the predator is about to strike the little creature spots a hole he can squeeze through and makes a mad dash for it. He makes it just in time and peeps out of the holes in your footbath as the frustrated predator lumbers off in search of an easier meal.

That’s how I get past the depressing aspects of the absurdity of our civilization- just imagine even more absurd extensions until you find something that’s more fun to imagine than it is depressing.

I’m sorry for your loss and very sorry you had to go through that. The fact that you can still give the paramedics credit for doing their best is admirable and shows a rational mind is in control of your emotions- but it’s okay to be pissed at them for being so inconsiderate and not respecting your grief. they could and should have done better.

The funny thing to me is I’m a sysadmin and I use a linux desktop and most of the devs I work with do also. The only people that use Windows desktops are end users that pretty much only use Office anyway and their PCs are basically used as advanced typewriters plus youtube. The C-suite has Macs but demands desktops run Windows because it’s all they know. We’ve even gotten rid of all the garbage legacy apps so the only reason we use Windows is the stuck habits of people that don’t even use Windows themselves.

But I know we’ll never stop paying MS. Windows is basically the Imperial measurement system or qwerty keyboards at this point. Our grandchildren will use it because our grandparents used it, well- not exactly but you get the idea.

Tell that to my CIO.

Yet somehow usable enough to make a post whining about how unusable it is…
