  • I don’t shit at work. Now, back in the day when I had my own private bathroom in my office (luck of the draw), I never shit at home.

I got paid 5.50 an hour (was shitty money even then, but a man could eat) to shit there, and by Krishna I was gonna shit there.

One day the boss said, “I don’t pay you to poop.” And I said, “Bud, you’ve paid me for every shit I’ve taken for the last four years. I’d like to take a moment to thank you while we’re on the subject.”

    He was not amused haha.

  • Phones finally stopped my hoarding.

On my desktop pc I have almost every file I’ve downloaded since 1998. Seriously.

Want that old specific version of Nero to burn CDs, I probably have you. Looking for abandonware? Yeah, that was my thing for awhile.

I used to have operating systems I can’t find any record of existing these days (mostly front ends for DOS made to seem more modern in the early 00s). I had something that made Windows 3.1 look like Windows 95, I even had something that made Windows 98 look just like Mac OS 8 (no shit, it layered over windows and everything flawlessly).

I had every version of Mandrake Linux and several versions after the rename.

Tonnns of software to extend the life of 16 bit hardware.

I still have several screeners in 240p from the early 2000s with the audience moving around and laughing in them.

I have a decent collection of Nirvana bootlegs I downloaded from FTP servers way back in the day.

Man I miss the old internet. I’m getting old and that’s part of it I guess.

I find myself hoarding on the Steam Deck desktop too. Something about having a wide open file system just brings that impulse out in me.

  • Oooh I loved my inline frames.

I was so fucking proud of that. My links down the left side, two inline frames neatly in a box on the right, perfectly designed in two versions. One for 800x600, the other for 1024x768.

I did websites for bands from East Tennessee, one for a weird website for survivors of “satanic ritual abuse”. I thought it was nuts but I made a hundred bucks.

I wouldn’t even know where to start on the modern web. I’m fine with that too. I lost the passion for it when everyone under the sun wanted me to be their free tech support years ago.

I remember when I first started on homestead. Seeing my dangling skeleton gifs and my “under construction” banners made me feel like something. There it was, the World Wide Web, and I had my own place on it. Perpetually under construction.

I used to love browsing geocities and the log in name would be right there in the link. Something like geocities.com/cartman1988

I’d guess the password and change things around on their page to mess with them. “Hmmm, Cartman eh? Let’s try southpark. I’M IN. Time to photoshop dicks on this dude’s face!”

    To be a kid again.

Y’all got me all old and nostalgic here. :p
